Texans Eyeing Super Bowl Window: Stroud's Supporting Cast Bolstered, Linebacker Battle Heats Up

The Houston Texans are poised for a strong 2026 season, with significant offensive line upgrades and defensive reinforcements aiming to propel C.J. Stroud and the team towards Super Bowl contention. Meanwhile, players like Blake Fisher face intense competition for roster spots as the team prioritizes efficiency and production.

The Houston Texans find themselves at a critical juncture as the 2026 season looms. With C.J. Stroud under center, the franchise has enjoyed consistent playoff appearances and at least one postseason victory annually. However, the offense sputtered last year, a struggle attributed to questionable play-calling in key moments and roster deficiencies. While Stroud himself has plays he'd wish to revisit, the onus falls on offensive coordinator Nick Caley to optimize his talent and general manager Nick Caserio to provide the necessary reinforcements. Caserio aggressively addressed the offensive line this offseason, reportedly adding three new starters and veteran running back David Montgomery to bolster the ground game. The selection of rookie tight end Marlin Klein in the second round provides a valuable complementary piece to Dalton Schultz. These moves aim to elevate the offense, but their on-field execution remains the ultimate test. The defense, however, stands as a formidable unit, having finished as the league's best last season and only improving with the additions of safety Reed Blankenship and defensive tackle Kayden McDonald. This defensive unit is capable of carrying the team, and if the offense finally achieves consistent production, the Texans could legitimately contend for an AFC Championship. As training camps commence, roster battles will intensify, and few positions face the scrutiny of the offensive line. The Texans have amassed considerable talent, leaving players like Blake Fisher fighting for their roster spots. Fisher, a former high draft pick, has shown flashes but his overall impact has been limited. His PFF grades indicate starting quality when utilized in specific run-heavy packages, but his pass-blocking remains a concern. With significant competition from free agent acquisitions like Wyatt Teller and Braden Smith, and other draft picks, Fisher must seize opportunities. Should veteran Trent Brown experience his customary injury struggles, Fisher could find himself with a clearer path to playing time as a swing tackle. Continued development and consistent performance will be crucial for him to secure a role on the 53-man roster. The Texans’ depth chart at tackle, including Ersery and Smith, already places him behind established players, making his performance paramount. The continued presence of the same offensive line coach and offensive scheme offers a degree of stability that could foster growth for Fisher, though the history of fellow former high draft picks like Kenyon Green and Juice Scruggs serves as a cautionary tale. His trajectory will be a significant storyline to monitor throughout training camp.
